Traumatised and still struggling to come to terms with an appalling family tragedy, the American graduate student, Dani, turns to her self-centred and distant boyfriend, Christian, against the backdrop of an inescapable break-up. In high hopes of repairing their disintegrating relationship, Dani tags along with two of Christian's fellow students and their cryptic Swedish friend, Pelle, to attend a once-every-ninety-years summer solstice festival at an isolated pagan commune in rural Sweden. Now, for the first time in a long while, Dani feels happy; however--in this friendly and verdant haven of peace, harmony, and constant sunshine--the welcoming community's peculiar traditions start to blemish the folkloric utopia, allowing the uncomfortable feeling of uneasiness to creep up on Dani and her friends. In the eyes of the uninitiated newcomers, the naturalistic rituals seem brutal. Could a numbing truth be hiding in plain sight?

A group of young people goes to someplace they have never been to before, which then turns out to be a death trap. We've seen this a million times. This time the setting is in Sweden among nice looking white and blond people and lots of colorful flowers. This is a bit odd, as we are trained to expect horror in dark und unpleasant places among ugly and wicked people. As it turns out, the nice white local people in this movie are raging lunatic psychopaths. There are some bloodshed, violence, gore and random pagan craziness. The kids all die, except for one, who decides to join the local psychopaths' colony. End of story.
There seems to be a new trend now to make movies extremely long. The Irishman is for example 3.5 hours long for no particular reason. This one is 2.5 hours long, whereas 1.5 would have been ideal.
The story is very predictable since once you know that this is supposed to be a horror movie, the good guys must somehow perish. The only questions are when and how gory this will happen.
What I believe has upset people so much, especially Americans, about this movie - besides its length - is that the "bad guys" are depicted as extremely nice, unspoiled, extremely white, extremely cultured, respectable men and women of all ages, including elderly people, all seemingly living in perfect harmony with each other, the nature and the universe, thus they don't fit the clichés of the genre. You just don't expect them to be bad. I mean, really bad. They shouldn't be bad, period.

I'm already convinced, just looking at that gruesome thumbnail. Wtf iv been listening to haxan cloak for years. Like a lot. Hes on or was on the same label as clams casino. They have literature that talks about how they arent a cult, but they have all the characteristics sooo. if it looks like a duck and talks & walks like a duck then isnt it a cult ? 😉🤣.
